Church of Oprah

Can I tell you how much I like to watch Oprah's Favorite Things around Christmas time? Such cool things. I get sucked in and think whatever Oprah thinks is cool has got to be cool!
Well, I have stopped thinking Oprah is cool. WATCH this YouTube and see why...

It shows me how we are ALL susceptible to false doctrine. We ALL can be lead astray. We ALL can be lured away from God so easily. So...make sure you READ THE BIBLE. Seriously! DO NOT listen to preachers or speakers without investigating the TRUTH for yourself! I love my pastor and think he is so wise BUT I have to seek truth from the BIBLE on my own. I have to investigate to see if what he is saying goes along with scripture. We get lazy and just listen to what others say. If it sounds right, it has to be right, right? Wrong!
Had Oprah read scripture on her own she would have know that the bible says "God is a jealous God" as her preacher said and understood what her preacher meant. God is not jealous of you but he is jealous of you worshipping other things. He wants You and ALL of you! Sit down with him today and see what HE has to say!!!

She had to go there didn't she? I had all this hope that she wasn't how Taylor swore she was...ugh! I still love the show, but now I have to be sad when I watch it. How bad is it that I still want to watch Oprah?

Once we had a "flood" in Liberty and the media came in town from Houston to film about it. Seeing that there wasn't much flood damage to the plain eye, they went straight to the ditch where the rainwater had collected and filmed their "breaking news" story from this angle.

It was from that day forward that I realized how skewed the one telling the story can be. I applaud your blog entry about the Truth, but that video link really got me riled up because of their judgements and filming a "flood from the ditch-angle." Seriously, Steph, don't believe everything you hear. It's the people that made that video that are no better than other extremists in the world... and that makes me heartbroke.

time for a musical interlude:

What's wrong with the world, mama?
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world's addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring the trauma

Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the U.S.A., the big C.I.A.
The bloods and the crips and the K.K.K.

But, if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah

Badness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

Kristen, I understand your point of view, however, I do not believe in the teaching that Oprah has or her "mentor". It goes against what I believe. It is not just from this video that I have gotten my information from. It is also an uneasiness in my spirit as well as other research I have done. It does not mean I do not like Oprah as a person! Quite the contrary! I am called to LOVE everyone...even if their views are different than mine! I was just pointing out that Christians are being lead astray from the TRUTH of the bible by believing what great speakers and teachers are saying. And, it is not only through Oprah where this is happening! There are other great leaders and teachers who are preaching, what I believe, to be false teachings.
Here is something to chew on from Galatians 1:6-8
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!"
It was even happening in biblical times! It is easy to get lead astray!!
I think what Oprah's guru is doing (and so many other teachers as well) is throwing us into confusion. Am I saying, "Never watch her show again!"? No, what I am saying is, "Watch out!", "Read your bible!", and "Guard your heart!" For me, I probably won't watch her show. I am easily lead astray and have to be careful!

While the video may be a bit over the top, it points out how egocentric we are. Whatever Oprah says or does turns to gold. Deceptively Delicious recipes were gross, but the cookbook sold millions of copies. Leona Lewis debuted on her show with Simon Cowell and her song is 2nd on iTunes. All of the books she's had on the past year (Eat, Pray, Love, The Secret, The New Earth) are all about a spiritual awakening within yourself. "I can do it myself". I am independent but always come back to the song by Plumb that says "I can't do this by myself. Lord, I need your help". When I try to do things by myself knowing that I put God on the sidelines, He quickly reminds me that I am no good by myself.
I don't like Joel Osteen for the reason that he preaches God but no cross. Oprah says it in her own show...there is more than one way. Sorry sister, there is only ONE way and that is through the ONE!
